Tradition of Bengali Poetry and Poet Abul Hossain:
Another brilliant poet of Bengali literature, Rupshi Rupsa's bright star, in the first emergence of modernity, poet Abul Hossain was born in Rupsha Upazila of Khulna District. He was born in 1922 in an aristocratic Muslim family in Deyara village of Rupsha upazila. Father SM Ismail Hossain used to work in Pakistan Police. The eldest of the three brothers was a poet. Kabir's middle brother SM Amjad Hossain was the Education Minister of Pakistan. SM Ashraf Hossain is his younger brother. Kabir's two sons Selim Hossain (Caesar) and Sehel Hossain (Misha). Chanida and Sunida are the two daughters of the poet. Abul Hossain is a poet of the forties. The forties were a very important time in Bengali poetry. In the history of Bangladesh, which was formed through constant struggle, many heart-wrenching incidents have taken place in the forties. World War II, Manantar, communal riots. Therefore, the movement against the so-called exploitative group of the ruling party of Pakistan started from this forties. Poet Abul Hossain woke up in the consciousness of history, time, contemporaneity, economy, love, achievement, cosmopolitanism. He was able to strike with an ax in Bengali prose poetry. Brought the impression of modernity. His first book of poetry, New Spring, was published in 1940, the 18th year of his birth. After that, the long-lived self-confident poet has crossed seven seas and thirteen rivers and brought a golden jiyankathi. The princess of Bengali poetry woke up after him. One by one he wrote "Birs Sanlap" - 1989, "What is your courage, Hawa" - 1972, "There is still time" - 1996, "What else are you waiting for" - 2000, "Raj Kahini" - 2004, "Satirical poem" - Poems like 2006, "Kaler Khataya" -2008 etc. He was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1973 and the Ekushey Padak in 1980 for his contribution to literature. He has also received various awards and honors including National Poetry Award Nasiruddin Gold Medal, Padabali Award, Kazi Mahbubullah Award and Gold Medal, Abul Hasanat Sahitya Award, Janbarta Gold Medal, Bangiya Sahitya Parishad Award, Janakantha Gunijan Award and reception by National Museum. Abul Hossain, a pioneer poet of Bengali poetry, died on 29 June 2014 in Dhaka. Language soldier and educationist Malik Atahar Uddin: Language soldier and eminent educationist Malik Atahar Uddin was born on 5 April 1934 in his ancestral home in Badhal village of Rupsha upazila. Father Danbir Haji Aftab Uddin Mallick and mother Saburannesa. He passed matriculation from St. Joseph's High School in 1949 and was admitted to Brajlal College. He passed IA in 1951 and BA in 1953. He obtained LLB degree from Rajshahi University in 1958 and MA in Bangla Literature in 1970. Students have been involved in politics since their student days. Became a member of the student union while a student at BL College. Combined with the opposition parties. In this he got the desired result. In 1953, Malik Atahar Uddin was elected General Secretary (GS) from the Student Union and Md. Abdul Wahab, a resident of Batiaghata, was elected Vice President from the Student Union. Malik Atahar Uddin was the founding president of the student union of Khulna district. While studying at BL College, he took part in the language movement of 1952 and read an essay titled "Rashtrabhasha Bangla" at a public meeting at Shaheed Hadith Park. The Shaheed Minar was constructed in 1954 with a wooden plank inside the BL College (now the site of the Shaheed Minar). Malik Atahar Uddin, Goalkhali resident Khandaker Zia Uddin Ahmed, Mollah Bazlur Rahman of Kashipur (elected GS in 1955) and Mizanur Rahim, a veteran lawyer of present Khulna, were in the forefront in the construction of the Shaheed Minar. The Shaheed Minar was demolished in 1956 during the rule of the then President Ayub Khan. He then engaged in law business in Khulna. Along with politics, he was nominated general secretary of the Khulna branch of the National Awami Party and was inspired by the ideals of Maulana Bhasani. He was first imprisoned in August 1972 and released a few days later. After that he was imprisoned and released many times. He took part in the mass movement in 1969 and left the law business in the same year and became a professor of Bangla at Daulatpur Diba / Naisha College. In that college he held the post of principal from 05/03/1983 to 22/08/1981 and from 01/08/1983 to 30/12/1994 he was the principal of Bangabandhu College under Belfulia. He died at his home in Khulna on 26/05/1999. He was a devoted worker and ideologue. He worked as a volunteer in the activities of Khulna Shishu Academy for the development and growth of children. Uncompromising in establishing the principle of justice. As a member of the board of directors of Suhrawardy College, he set the standard of work as per the rules. He was extremely humble, sweet-spoken, sociable and strict in administrative work. Towards the end of his life, he was the founding president of the JBM Secondary School built on the land donated by his father in his village.
