Rupsha upazila is named after the river Rupsha in Khulna district. This upazila was established on 14 September 1983. The area of the upazila is 120.15 sq km. It is bounded on the north by terkhada upazila, on the south by batiaghata and fakirhat upazilas, on the east by fakirhat and mollar hat upazilas, and on the west by khulna district town and dighalia upazila.
Rupsha upazila is located in the northeast of Khulna district. It is bounded on the north by Terkhada, on the east by Mollahat and Fakirhat in Bagerhat district, on the south by Fakirhat and Batiaghata, on the west by Batiaghata and Khulna Metro Thana. The upazila is located between 22.45 and 22.54 north latitudes and between 89.33 and 69.43 east longitudes. The distance from Khulna City Corporation to Rupsha Upazila Sadar is about 10 kilometers. The total area of the upazila is 120.25 sq km, of which the river covers about 7.6 sq km, respectively.
